DRIVEN
£8.6m Innovate UK fleet trial, running autonomous vehicles between Oxford and London with insurance and cybersecurity modelling built in.
Built on Horizon Europe and Innovate UK programmes delivered in the UK — now operating from Greece.
Afani Innovations grew out of work inside Oxfordshire County Council's Future Mobility team: projects across connected vehicles, drone corridors, traffic systems, logistics and rural resilience, most of which ran as public trials rather than desk research.
A commuter shuttle ran between Milton Park and Didcot. A drone corridor was built spanning five towns. A road-safety programme reported findings across fifteen partner organisations. Records for each sit in UK and EU funding databases. The five areas below map where that delivery experience sits.
Road trials, not simulations alone: fleet operations between Oxford and London, a commuter shuttle at Milton Park, and a 32km digital twin used to certify vehicle safety before deployment.
£8.6m Innovate UK fleet trial, running autonomous vehicles between Oxford and London with insurance and cybersecurity modelling built in.
Self-driving shuttle piloted between Milton Park and Didcot railway station, connecting commuters to a shared autonomous fleet.
AI-based digital twin of a 32km Oxfordshire road loop, simulating rural and urban conditions to certify autonomous vehicle safety.
Asset mapping work preparing Oxfordshire's road infrastructure for connected and autonomous vehicle readiness.
Integrating autonomous vehicles into Mobility-as-a-Service journey planning, alongside Oxfordshire's wider CAV testbed work.
The UK's first multi-city demonstration of autonomous vehicle services, testing consistent operation across different urban environments.
From early beyond-visual-line-of-sight drone corridors to a live eVTOL air-taxi demonstrator — covering the regulatory, airspace, and public-trust work that sits behind each flight.
Horizon 2020 trial of electric autonomous vehicles and drone deliveries across Oxfordshire, Rotterdam and Trikala, including a live defibrillator delivery.
A 165-mile drone superhighway across Reading, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cambridge and Coventry, enabling flight beyond visual line of sight.
High-integrity monitoring system for advanced air mobility, giving airspace operators the situational awareness BVLOS flight needs.
Electric air-taxi demonstrator between Oxford and Cambridge, testing eVTOL flight, vertiports and regulatory readiness for regional AAM.
Horizon 2020 validation of converged 5G network concepts across transport, health and industrial verticals, including aerial use cases.
Systems running on live road networks: real-time traffic and air-quality management, cross-stakeholder coordination for automated vehicles, and safety research spanning fifteen partner organisations.
Real-time traffic and air-quality management for the Oxford road network, modelling responses across the A34 and A40 corridors.
Next-generation traffic management enabling CAV integration and cross-stakeholder collaboration, piloted in Oxfordshire, Athens and Antwerp.
Horizon Europe road-safety research across 15 partners, working toward Vision Zero for cyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.
Horizon Europe project improving coordination and trust across connected and automated mobility systems, piloted at seven European sites.
A last-mile delivery pilot built with local couriers and retailers, moving goods by cargo bike through consolidation hubs rather than vans.
Horizon Europe and Innovate UK project piloting cargo-bike micro-consolidation hubs and logistics-as-a-service delivery across Oxford.
Applying the same evidence-based approach outside the transport sector: data-driven resilience work for rural communities.
Horizon Europe project building nature-based solutions and resilience capacity in rural communities across Europe.
